Spain is situated in south-west of Europe and is part of the Iberian Peninsula, together with Portugal, Andorra and Gibraltar. It borders France and Andorra to the north-west, Gibraltar to the South and its territory comprises the Northern African cities of  Ceuta and Melilla, which border Morocco to the South.

The capital city is Madrid. The most popular cities are Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Avila, Bilbao, Barcelona, Cordoba, Granada, Ibiza, Murcia, Palma de Mallorca, Sevilla, Zaragoza, Valencia and Malaga.

Because of its favourable geographic location, in the past Spain was regarded as a strategic land that had to be conquered at all costs in order to control the Mediterranean Sea and the trades that took place in the Mediterranean area. That is why, today, Spanish culture is so eclectic. Its traditions and customs have been shaped by many different populations, such as the Saracens, the Romans and the Iberians.

Spain today is the second greatest tourist attraction in Europe, mainly thanks to its pristine beaches, exciting nightlife, terrific cuisine and “la movida”.

No matter whether you are planning to go to Spain in December or August, as the typical Spanish festive atmosphere lasts all year round, as most Spanish cities boast the presence of excellent universities and thousands of students who, as soon as the clock strikes at 22.00, drop the books and pour into clubs, bars and discos.

Returning to the beautiful Spanish coastline, Spain is the right place for beach lovers and relaxation seekers, as its picturesque beaches are quiet and far from the noise of the city. However, not all beaches are dedicated to “relaxation”.

On the contrary, many of them, especially the ones situated in the South of Spain, boast the highest concentration of facilities for tourists and locals. Some of the most beautiful beaches are Costa Brava, Costa del Sol, Costa Blanca, Costa de la Luz and Costa Verde.

If you are searching for a nice spot to spend some time with your loved one, you’ll surely find it along the Mallorca coastline, dotted with beaches from where you may contemplate the the mountains of Sierra de Tramuntana whilst enjoying the pleasures of the sea.

Festivals and traditional events take place nearly every week in most Spanish citites. The country welcomes tourists with concerts, music and dances all year round and, if you a love spending time outdoors, you can’t miss the Semana Grande San Sebastian, a whole week dedicated to sports lovers which takes place in the middle of August.
