Portugal is situated in Western Europe, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and borders Spain to the east.

Because of its favourable position, in the past this country used to rule many overseas territories. Today, the archipelagoes of Madeira and the Azores are all that is left of the once glorious colonial empire.

Portugal has a proud history of independence, the many historical events that have taken place on its land and the different cultures that have marked its architecture and mindset are still visible in some coastal regions. Here you may find many brightly painted wooden houses that once belonged to rich fishermen, featuring fancy majolica decorations, and lots of windmills, some of which are still working.

Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, is a city of historic charm and, despite being bound by the Atlantic Ocean, has a warm climate and it’s hospitable inhabitants make it seem like a Mediterranean city which offers tourists a wide choice of entertainment.

Whether you seek relaxation, and pleasure, or whether you would like to get in touch with nature, in Portugal you will find many vineyards, parks and wheat fields.

Noteworthy is the religious tourism that gives a great boost to the country’s economy as thousands of pilgrims go to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima, hoping to witness a miracle.

A well-known traditional festival is the Corrida or Tourada.

If you love surfing, you are strongly recommended to go to the west coast, to the Algarve, where you will find the largest waves and lots of people who share your passion. The Algarve is a popular destination with fancy hotels and resorts and has some great beaches such as Praia do Tonel, where you may sunbathe and practice lots of watersports. Along the coast you will find 800 kilometers of white sandy beaches and many sheltered coves where you can spend some unforgettable and romantic moments with your loved ones.

Depending on your preferences, you may choose between the cosmopolitan beaches of Lisbon, and the mysterious wilderness of the Alentejo coast.

And, after a beautiful day in the sun, you may dive into the nightlife of these amazing places. We suggest you visit the charming wine cellars in Porto Nova Cella and taste their famous homemade wine or have a passion fruit juice by the sea.
