So, if your friends make fun of you because your skin is so pale because you found yourself accidentally on the set of the TV-series Twilight Saga, nobody could tell the difference between you and Edward Cullen.
Well, considering that most fashion designers are working on their collections for Summer 2011, and they have already stated that nobody should hit the beach next summer without a perfectly tanned body, here are a few tips for you to get tanned at home, without spending a fortune on treatments at the local beauty salon.
So here are a few tips you need to get that so-longed-for tan: a very small bikini if you are a woman (the smaller, the better), a Brazilian sunga if you are a man (or swimming trunks that resemble a sunga), a bottle of still water, factor 15 and 30 sun creams, an empty spray bottle, a beach robe and a pillow.
You can lay your beach robe on the grass if you have a garden, on the floor of the balcony or on a chaise longue if you have one out on your terrace.
Use your pillow to rest your head, so that you will relax and manage to stay longer in the sun.
When you go out in the sun for the first few times, use the more protective of the two sun creams you have bought, so your skin can get used to the sun rays, otherwise you might get burnt within a few hours. After a few times, you can switch to the factor 15 sun screen.
Apply the sunscreen at least fifteen minutes before lying in the sun, so that your skin will have absorbed the cr├Ęme completely.
Fill the spray bottle with fresh water and use it to freshen up when the heat increases. It will give you relief and will contribute to giving you an even darker tan since translucent surfaces attract sun rays.
Having a carrot juice, an orange juice or a few slices of melon before catching a tan will maximise the final result, as orange fruit is known to stimulate the production of melanin.
Drink as much as you like, as sun rays will cause your skin to dehydrate quite quickly but you surely know that dehydration is one of the main causes of premature aging, so make sure you keep your body well hydrated.
If you like, read a magazine or listen to some music while achieving your desired tan so you will not to get bored.
Last but not least, avoid sun exposure between 12.00 and 15.00, as during those hours the sun reaches its highest point and you might get burnt.
