Gisele Bündchen

Brazilian model Gisele Caroline Bündchen is sure to honour her native country with her beauty and success, as well as the entire world of fashion, thanks to her respectable initiatives.

She does, in fact, collaborate with the United Nations Environment Programme, promoting solutions and organising charity events aimed at preserving our environment.

Born in Horizontina (Brazil) on the 20th of July, 1980, Gisele is daughter to her Portuguese mother and German father and has 5 sisters.

Her life seems to be dotted with very interesting stories, some of which you will surely find hilarious. For instance, would you ever believe that, during her school days, she used to be called “Olive Oyl”, Popeye’s tall and skinny girlfriend, because of her super thin body. Well, it must have been quite a shock to those little rascals when Gisele appeared on the cover of Vogue in 1999.

But her modelling career actually started in 1993, when Gisele’s mother insisted on her joining a modelling course with her sister. After some time she went to Sao Paulo to experience the big city life and, while having a bite at the local McDonald’s, she was approached by a modelling agent who had her debut at New York Fashion Week.

She has posed several times for Vogue, W, Elle, Allure, GQ, Marie Claire and many other international magazines and has featured on the covers of Rolling Stones after she was awarded the title of “Most beautiful girl in the world”.

In spite of the many changes the world of fashion has gone through over the last 20 years, Gisele seems to possess the same amiable qualities that were once attributed to supermodels such as Claudia Schiffer and Naomi Campbell, who both reckoned that Gisele is probably the only professional model who, today, rightfully deserves the title.

Later she worked with Victoria’s Secret, Valentino, Louis Vitton, Dolce and Gabbana, Zara, Karl Lagerfeld and other important fashion designers and photographers. Gisele now spends a great deal of her time helping to preserve marine life and design sandals in collaboration with Ipanema, a Brazilian flip-flop manufacturer that has recently seen a significant increase in flip flop sales, ever since Gisele started giving her contribution.

She also took part in Colourful Sea, a project that aims to preserve the beauties of the sea, paying particular attention to sea turtles, splendid animals that populate the Brazilian coast that the Tamar Project has been studying and defending for 30 years now and that Gisele Bündchen and Ipanema are now supporting.

Gisele is married to American footballer Tom Brady and has a son called Benjamin Brady.
